About Surya – Indian and Nepalese Fine Dining since 2002

Indian Nepalese Restaurant

Surya means sun in Sanskrit. The sun represents light, warmth, and positivity, and that forms the foundation of everything we do. Since 2002, we have brought together the rich cuisines of India and Nepal in an elegant setting where refined flavors, art, design, and hospitality enhance one another to create a complete experience.

What started as a single restaurant in Hilversum has grown into a beloved concept with locations in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Hilversum, Bodegraven, and—since 2025—also in Eindhoven.

Our story

Surya was founded by Pamma Dhesi and his family.
Pamma grew up in Punjab, India, where food and hospitality are at the heart of daily life. As a teenager, he moved to the Netherlands, but the dream of creating a place where the warmth, colors, and flavors of India and Nepal come together never left him.

In 2002, he opened Surya. From the very beginning, Pamma wanted to build a restaurant that exudes calm and refinement. Comfortable seating, soft materials, warm lighting, contemporary art, and personal service formed the foundation. This approach led to a series of successful expansions into other cities, all sharing the same quality, atmosphere, and attention to detail.

Pamma’s vision remains visible in every location. Surya should feel like a world of its own, a place where guests can momentarily step away from the busyness of the day and enjoy time with themselves or their loved ones.
